Towards the development of management guidelines for freshwater inland fisheries in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa

Hooked on fishing? Reel in your experience and spare 10 minutes to tell us about your fishing activities.

Greetings, angler. My name is Samuel Motimele, and I am a PhD student in the Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science (DIFS) at Rhodes University. This questionnaire is the first phase of my PhD research, which aims to identify dams in the Eastern Cape where people fish and understand how these dams are used, including the types of fisheries they support and the benefits they provide. The information will help identify suitable sites for more detailed ecological and socio-economic studies and contribute to the implementation of South Africa’s National Freshwater (Inland) Wild Capture Fisheries Policy, approved in 2021. The study has been approved by the Rhodes University Human Research Ethics Committee (RU-HREC Approval No. 2026-8952-10812).
